What Should Win Rap Album of the Year?

4 12 2008

grammy

The Grammy Nominees were announced yesterday and the most interesting “battle” to me is the rap album of the year.

You got:

Jay-Z American Gangster

Lil Wayne-The Carter III

Lupe Fiasco-The Cool

Nas-Untitled

T.I.-Paper Trail

If I were a Grammy voter, I would use my vote for American Gangster.  But, I wouldn’t be so hard pressed to give my vote for T.I.  Wayne just isn’t getting my vote because even though C3 had some very high points, it’s not cohesive enough as American Gangster or as reflective and soul touching as Paper Trail.  If I had to rank these five albums it would be as follows:

1. American Gangster

2.Paper Trail

3.Untitled

4.The Cool

5. The Carter III

How would you rank them?  I wanna hear this!  Dont be shy!

Hosea Thomas Found Guilty of Killing Philant Johnson

26 11 2008

ti1

Today justice was served.  The man who KILLED Philant Johnson was found guilty today by a Cincinnati jury.  I’m not a fan of anyone serving jail time.  However if you did the crime it is a must that one do the time.  I live by this.  You have to be able to handle the consequences.  Now the situation is FUCKED up.  One brother snitched on another.  Wow….  Then, T.I. got involved on the stand.  And, the alleged “girlfriend” offered a weird ass testimony to try and save Hosea.  However, it didn’t work.

A jury has convicted the man accused of gunning down rapper T.I.’s assistant last May after a show in Cincinnati. Hosea Thomas, 35, was found guilty on all counts – including murder – today (November 26).

Prosecutors alleged that Thomas was the triggerman in the May 3, 2006 shooting, while his brother Padron drove the Jeep that followed two of the rapper’s vans down I-75.

The incident stemmed from an earlier altercation inside of Club Ritz, where Hosea was struck in the head with a bottle.

Hosea Thomas was convicted of firing the shots into T.I.’s van that struck and killed Philant Johnson, who died from a gunshot wound to the left temple.

Three other members of T.I.’s entourage were injured during the exchange, which took place on the interstate.

Hosea Thomas was convicted after a number of people testified he was the shooter, including his own brother Padron, who will receive a lesser sentence for his cooperation.

Thomas faces 20 years to life in prison when he is sentenced December 23.

In related news, T.I. and his Grand Hustle cohorts plan to give back to their Atlanta community through a series of charitable events this Thanksgiving.

Following a press conference, which kicks off at 9:00 am, T.I. and his entourage will help serve food and will also speak encouraging words to the children and parents in attendance.

At 7:00 PM, T.I. will head to Adamsville Recreation Center, where he and members of his Grand Hustle imprint will host a turkey giveaway.

Later, the rapper will head to Turner Field, where he will take part in the Feed The Hungry & Homeless event.

Shawty Lo Just Will NOT Quit…

Peeped this on XXL.  Check it out…Shawty Lo need to chill.

Shawty Lo’s innocent. As previously reported, members of T.I. and Lo’s crews got into an altercation during Radio One’s Fourth Annual Dirty Awards in Atlanta last night (11/25).

Early reports say the fight started when Lo taunted Grand Hustle with his own version of Yung L.A.’s “Ain’t I.” But to let the Bankhead rapper tell it, he didn’t instigate anything.

“I didn’t go and start nothing. If they rewind the cameras, they’ll see how it started,” Lo told MTV. “I’m a man. I respect every man as a man. If a man disrespects me, what am I supposed to do? T.I. needs to contain his people. We’re not standing down. I performed my music; 107.9 [one of the show’s organizers] called me to perform. I didn’t come to start no beef with him. I gave Tip a shout out at the BET [Hip-Hop] Awards.”

Lo actually claims Tips’ camp started the fight. He tells MTV Alfamega and other Grand Hustle artists approached the stage and started ice grilling during his performance.

“Basically, I didn’t start saying anything about Tip,” Lo explained. “I was performing my music. During ‘Foolish,’ all of them was coming in front of the stage doing their mugging. After ‘Dunn, Dunn,’ I performed the dis record ‘Don’t I.’ That’s what made me perform the diss record. I ain’t gonna lie; they was disrespecting me. I wasn’t gonna let them disrespect me.”

Lo fittingly bumped into T.I. when his D4L crew was taken backstage minutes after the melee. The two briefly spoke in a private meeting, in which Tip apparently suggested they end their feud once and for all.

“He told me the beef was over with,” Lo told MTV. “I said, ‘If the beef was let go, me and you have to publicize it. We have to do it together.’ He agreed to do that, and we shook hands in the back room.”

Lo claims Tip then accepted an award on stage before taunting, “if somebody’s got a problem with me, do something better than me.” He then began performing “Ain’t I” with Yung L.A., sparking another altercation between the two crews. Tip wasn’t involved in any of the fights. Lo says he’s still willing to squash the beef, isn’t sure T.I.’s on the same page.

“[Me and Tip’s conversation] ended on a positive note with the conversation,” Lo said. “I don’t know where he is [with the beef]. I guess he just be talking. One thing about it, Shawty Lo ain’t no punk. T.I. is just a rapper. He knows how to read a book good. Where I live is for real. I ain’t got nothing against homes. He’s got family, I got family. I’m not trying to kill him, he’s not trying to kill me. I got fans that love me. He’s not not gonna run all over me. I ain’t Lil’ Flip.”

Grand Hustle and Shawty Lo Finally Get It Poppin’ @ The Dirty Awards!

25 11 2008

Ok so apparently T.I.’s camp and Shawty Lo’s niggaz got it on @ The Dirty Awards.  Not many details right now.  So I’m going to let AHH do my talking.

Radio One’s fourth annual Dirty Awards ended abruptly this evening when two separate altercations erupted reportedly between rapper Shawty Lo and members of the Grand Hustle camp tonight (November 24).

An eye witness told AllHipHop.com that the tension between the two crews mounted during Shawty Lo’s performance, which included a diss version of Grand Hustle artist Yung LA’s song “Ain’t I.”

As Lo performed his version with a chorus “Don’t I,” an audience member identified by an eyewitness as Capitol recording artist Alfamega, allegedly threw a chair onto the stage.

At that point, witnesses say another artist signed to the T.I.-helmed label stormed the stage, at which point authorities proceeded to break a fight.

T.I. himself took the stage shortly after the fight to accept an award following, a reported private conversation with Shawty-Lo, in which the Grammy Award-winning rapper/actor allegedly insisted once again, that the two end their long-running beef.

He proceeded to denounce the violence and negativity and assured the Dirty Awards audience that he did not condone the fighting.

Shortly thereafter, however, a second fight broke out as T.I. performed his verse from “Ain’t I,” allegedly substituting some lyrics with verbal jabs at Shawty Lo, with whom he has had an unpleasant relationship throughout the year.

Towards the end of the performance, another member of the Grand Hustle camp allegedly jumped off stage and assaulted a man witnesses said was Shawty Lo’s brother.

Police officers then halted the awards show, using pepper spray to end the fight.

While the Dirty Awards audience was immediately evacuated, witnesses say other altercations may have occurred outside of the event.

T.I. WILL Testify Tommorrow in The Murder Case

20 11 2008

ti1

According to AllHipHop T.I. will testify tommorrow in the case again Hosea Thomas, the alleged shooter of his best friend Philant Johnson.  Earlier THE CINCINNATI MONSTER.COM reported that he might or might not but T.I.P will testify in the case against Hosea.  I DEFINITLY think this is apart of his plea agreement.  It just sounds TOO fishy.  With all the “cooperating” that T.I.P. is doing it just doesn’t seem to add up to me.  Of course he could be doing this to put his best friend’s killer behind bars.  But, being with him about to go behind bars himself, it makes me think.  I definitely think that this was somewhere apart of his plea agreement.

Peep the AHH article:

Grammy Award-winning rapper T.I. is scheduled to appear in a Cincinnati courtroom Friday to offer his testimony against Hosea Thomas, the 34-year-old man accused of killing the rapper’s childhood friend and personal assistant Philant Johnson in 2006.

The Grand Hustle/Atlantic recording artist will offer his account of the chain of events that led to a car chase and gun battle in which Thomas is accused of firing at two vans carrying T.I.’s entourage along I-75 in Cincinnati in the early morning hours of May 3.

The altercation left Johnson dead at the scene and four others injured.

T.I.’s testimony comes on the third day of witness accounts as the Hamilton County prosecutor’s office presents its case against Thomas.

So far, the jury selected on Monday (November 7), has heard from eyewitnesses, members of T.I.’s entourage and a person who was in the Jeep Cherokee with Thomas on the night in question.

No word on whether that person was the prosecution’s star witness, 40-year-old Padron Thomas, who provided authorities with incriminating evidence against his brother Hosea as part of a plea deal.

In related news, T.I. is reportedly expanding his musical repertoire as well.

Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora has revealed that one of his many upcoming projects is a collaboration with the Atlanta rapper.

Sambora did not provide details as to whether the collaboration would be for Bon Jovi’s upcoming greatest hits album, which will feature new material by the rock band.
